NOW UNDER CONTRACT!  Completed in 1954 from a design by Durham architect John D. Latimer, the Geraldine and Roy Tilley House is Fuquay-Varina’s best example of modernist residential architecture. Roy Tilley admired the modern houses he had seen in magazines, and wanted a flat roofed house like he saw in publications of the early and mid-1950s.  With an architect who worked in the Modern mode and their family connection to one of the most successful local concrete block companies in Wake County, the family built what was at that time according to Roy Tilley, “the most unique house” in town. The Tilleys lived in the house until 1969.

The main body of the low-lying concrete block house is composed of three flat-roof units slightly staggered in height. An ell extends from the rear of the western section, while an original flat-roofed open carport with an attached utility room extends from the eastern front block.  (Source: Jennifer Martin, report on the Geraldine and Roy Tilley House)
